If you’re looking to get into e-commerce anytime soon, then you’re gonna wanna know the players you’ll meet on the way. In this article we’ll share a few Amazon competitors and a payment processing giant. We hope you enjoy it

Walmart

A global giant in its own right. Walmart generates over 510 billion dollars (U$D) in sales per year. That’s twice the amount of Amazon even though a big percentage of Walmart sales come from physical store purchases

Walmart has more than 11,000 stores covering 27 countries.

Even though most people know Walmart for their physical stores, this retail giant also does a lot of business online where the company has a significant presence.

Just behind Amazon, Walmart is the next most popular online marketplace in the US as far as e-commerce revenue.

With such an international presence, footprint and huge customer base Walmart will continue to be a threat to Amazon in the e-commerce space

eBay

There isn’t anyone out there in the e-commerce world that hasn’t heard the name eBay. The platform pioneered consumer to consumer online selling. Later, the company evolved and has become more of a  way for consumers to both purchase and sell used and new merchandise.

While eBay traditionally has worked on a consumer to consumer model, the company has expanded today to include business to consumer.

Regarding traffic and market share per website visits, eBay is number 2 after Amazon with just under 20% of the entire market share.

Website visitors to the eBay site is highly impressive. Visits are twice the number of visits to Walmart and we’ve already gone over how successful Walmart is in the e-commerce space.

EBay providing consumers the ability to bid on products, it’s the unique way it connects buyers and sellers, which makes it a top competitor to Amazon.

PayPal

Another big player in the e-commerce world doesn’t really sell anything, but rather empowers you to buy.

PayPal is one of the biggest players in e-commerce. Used by millions of businesses the world over, PayPal offers smart solutions for global e-commerce sites of every color and stripe.

PayPal empowers e-commerce merchants to accept PayPal and card payments on e-commerce sites, using checkout buttons and a fully customized suite of solutions.

Alibaba / Aliexpress

The China-based online retailer Alibaba is an international giant that specializes in wholesale selling online. This is the difference between Alibaba and Amazon.

The business model overall is very unique to each company. Amazon is run under one big tent, while Alibaba runs as separate businesses. You have Alibaba, Tmail, and Taobao for example.

The B2B focus is Alibaba, and the other branches focus more on multinational brands and B2C.

As of June last year, Alibaba boasted over 750 million users worldwide. The company controls nearly 60% of all online sales in China.

In November of 2018, on China’s version of Black Friday, known as Singles Day, Alibaba pulled in 30 Billion dollars in one day of online sales!! If that’s not a force to be reckoned with, we don’t know what is!

The world is full of online markets, and even in one of the largest ones of them all, sales can hit a glass ceiling. The market can become oversaturated.

From best-selling practices to secret programs, there are quite a few great Amazon courses out there that can put you on the path to sales greatness. For this blog post, we thought we would condense some of what we learned over the years and offer you these ten tips to increase your sales on Amazon. These tips are based on our experience working with thousands of Amazon sellers worldwide.

The tips below are relevant for any Amazon Seller, whether they are companies selling their own products or private labels on FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon). We highly recommend the Amazon FBA course which will give you all you need.

It’s important to note, that the best way to achieve any type of improvement after optimizing is by testing it! This is because different audiences, products and categories will react differently to your optimizations.

As I’m sure you’ll all agree, nothing can beat good reviews.

1. Reviews

After you launch a product one of your first steps needs to be having email automation in place and rearing to go!

This means that each one of your customers is going to receive an email. Actually, two. One with a link included which will enable them to see your reviews. And after the product is delivered the automation system will send another email that would ask for a review of the product.

You’ll want to test emails and optimize them over and over and over. Some of the things that you can test for are:

 – The best subject lines

 – The best calls-to-action

 – The content you include

This will give you an incredible understanding of the open rate when sending marketing emails. There are lots of tools out there, some of them are even free, that will allow you to see who clicks on what and when. That’s called analytics.

2. Don’t Pretend

If you are new to selling on Amazon specifically or in general it’s best not to pretend that you are the world’s biggest brand. It just does NOT work. Instead we suggest to just be yourself and write about your company and write about your products. Those are the messages that best resonate with buyers.

Additionally, a leading way to increase customer engagement is to offer some content for free such as an EBook or PDF  related to the product you are selling.

It’s very important to read all your reviews which will give you guidance on how to shape your product, how to make it better and in turn generate more sales, even better reviews and a vision for what to sell next.

3. Drive External Traffic

If done properly a great return on investment is driving traffic from sources outside of Amazon and increasing sales. There are quite a few ways to do this.

You can do it via social media and it really depends on what you find yourself. Find places to drop links to your store by entering and engaging in conversations.

4. Influencer Marketing

Sometimes it’s really great to just provide a free product, something an influencer can promote to their following. You just pay a service charge for a review. It’s best to reach out to as many influencers as possible as you might not get such a good return rate.

Depending on what you’re selling, you can find influencers on online blogs, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and more…

5. Automate your Product Pricing with a Repricer

Time has come for an automatic repricing tool. By the time you manually reprice your stock, your competitors are reeling in the cash, as their stock is being replaced automatically within seconds while you just started.

6. Keywords are KEY

Buyers are always changing the keywords they use to find products. You can stay ahead of the curve with a great tool like SEMrush or Camelcamelcamel or many others out there that will keep your competitors on their toes and the buyers streaming in.  The key is SEO, SEO, and more SEO.

7. Keep Your inventory synced

If you’re a seller on a few platforms then you need to sync your inventory to make it a lot easier to keep track of it and to keep the tone in your product listings more consistent.

This will also help you improve your time management as syncing is very time consuming. Now you can devote more of your time to the other tips in this list.

8. Improve Product Photos

Most of us are visual shoppers, and one of the best and most efficient ways to grab a buyer’s attention is by delivering a photo experience that goes beyond anything they’ve ever seen.

You want to use top quality photos. It’s very easy and you don’t need to be a professional photographer and devote tons of time to it. All you need is a few tips on how to connect your buyer with the photos.

9. Follow Amazon’s  Law!

We’re in this to sell right? So, why would you do anything to impede your chances to succeed? One of the quickest ways to get on Amazon’s bad side is to break the rules. There is no way you could sell  if your account is suspended or even shut down. Agree? Dealing with amazon nicely and playing nicely with others means that you’re giving yourself a chance to win.

Knowing Amazon’s laws means that you should set up your product pages in the way that Amazon wants you to. But this also leads to higher trust with your buyers when they see a page that conforms to Amazon’s standards.

10. Customer Service is Key

When you start selling, you need to make sure that you have a customer service process that leaves no stone unturned. With so many products of the same type on Amazon, you need to stand out! Do it with great customer service!

Please feel free to share your tips and share this post!

Do you remember when shopping meant leaving the house? Perhaps. Today, there is no real reason to leave the house to shop, as you can buy anything, even a house with just a single click.

There’s one company that changed all that. Amazon. In changing the way we buy, Amazon has become the leading innovator in the world of eCommerce.

The company has changed the way we interact with products, the way we buy, the way we sell, the way we pay. That is why Amazon holds a large share in most of the eCommerce world. And that’s why if you’re serious about selling, you need to be a part of the Amazon selling jungle! We’ll tell a short story here to drive our point home.

It was late last November and we were in the office all night working on some great Amazon FBA courses. One of our co-workers was complaining of neck strain. Then another said they were too.

What do you think was the first thing that came to our mind? Yep. Amazon. Jeff’s Massage Palace. One of our Amazon partners, a top-ranked seller has a slick store selling back massagers, neck massagers, and even ahead massager, for when a Tylenol won’t do. So, we visit the site after Google takes us there, and my partner and I decide to buy 12 neck massagers for the staff for Thanksgiving. There was no going to any store involved. With just a few clicks, the neck massagers were on their way.

You may (or may not) remember the sears catalog which was delivered to homes across the US a few decades ago. It was a big factor in creating consumer remote ordering culture in the US. Today, Amazon stands at the forefront of the eCommerce revolution, and in many ways is shaping the American culture and economy forever.

While Amazon started with books, the company diversified, selling other products in the late 90s. In the new millennium, Amazon expanded and began to sell anything anybody could ever want. Not only that, they opened up their platform to 3rd party sellers like us and you (If not now, hopefully SOON!). Amazon currently sells over 12 million different products. One can buy a baby stroller, a bike for your child, or a rare coin from 1937 within 10 minutes after doing all the comparison shopping they can.

Because so many products are sold it’s easy to do comparisons online against other products and see reviews. This is nearly impossible to do in person. Back in 2005, Amazon launched Amazon prime which was key to streamlining the process in ordering as well as offering free delivery and creating maximum customer loyalty. During this time in the early millennium it was this way of buying goods that changed the American consumer way of life. We see it as continuing to do so in the coming years and not stopping.

Now no matter where you live you can buy the same items that someone who is 12000 miles away from you is buying as well and get them delivered within the same time period. That’s the reason Amazon is so dominant and will continue to be dominant for some time. That’s why you as a seller, need to hop on board ASAP and sell online.

There is an absolute wealth of Amazon selling courses that will show you how to sell successfully on Amazon.

Again, with just a few clicks the transaction was done, and the neck massagers were here within 2 business days, just in time for Turkey dinner.
